From Cisco Certification
The Cisco Certified Internetwork Expert is considered the toughest certification program in the IT industry. To earn this top-level certification requires years of experience and training, and is considered to be the most respected certification in the networking industry.
Unlike some certifications, the CCIE certification is more “experience- based” than “training based”. In fact, experience is the number one factor in earning a Cisco CCIE certification. The exam consists of a written exam and a lab examination, both of which are considered very difficult. As of 2008, only 20,000 people worldwide have received certification, which is a small number compared to the millions of people that have an IT degree. Earning this distinction clearly requires a high level of commitment and dedication.
Not all aspiring CCIE trainees will have time for on-site training or boot camp, and will rely on online training to prepare for the exam. Online training makes it possible for IT professionals to prepare for the exam with the convenience and time flexibility they require.
Choosing a good online training center is very important. Make sure the center is accredited, and offers online coaching, tutoring, and materials that can used to study at home. The first stage of training should focus on the written exam, dealing with the concepts and applications of IT networks and engineering. The second stage should focus primarily on solving practical networking problems. Network simulations and actual hands-on practice is a must for those preparing for the lab portion of the exam. Renting a rack is the preferred way to get online training for the CCIE lab exam.
